About the Causes of the “Dog-gnawed Bone” Phenomenon of Grinding Brush Roller and the Related Countermeasures

“Dog-gnawed bone”

Both the GSH Brand Buffs and Nylon Bristle Brush Rollers will often become like “dog-gnawed bone” or dumbbell showed above (i.e., a shape with two larger ends) due to incorrect operation or configuration during the onsite operation.

The occurrence of such phenomenon will cause two unfavorable results: one is that the user will suffer direct loss due to the shortened life of brush roller; the other is the effect of brushing will be undesired when the board is placed just under the end of the “dog-gnawed bone”!

Based on the long-term onsite observation and analysis, we have found out the main causes of such phenomenon are as follows:

1. Operation: No automatic board placing machine is used, and the boards are manually placed in a non-uniform manner, or the boards are always placed in the middle.

2. Configuration of brush roller: when matching some equipments with some brush rollers, it's necessary that the effective length of each brush roller shall be less than the corresponding transfer width, which requires to do special “edge-cutting” processing of the brush rollers.

3. Equipment: Due to the long-term serious abrasion of the back-up rollers on the equipment, the grounding traces will show “dog-gnawed bone” phenomenon even when the surface of brush roller is flat.

4. Process: The “dog-gnawed bone” phenomenon will occur after the brushes haven't been maintained for a long time, or boards have been placed non-uniformly for a long time.

In every working procedure of PCB manufacturing, too small surface roughness will lead to the circs of exuviation, peeling off or throwing off oil,if too big roughness,it will make an accidented surface and other bugs, so we suggest the users to choose the brush roller providers carefully and control the pivotal parameters like brushing machine ampere.

GSH suggests the following countermeasures to overcome the “dog-gnawed bone” phenomenon described above:

1. Operation: Use automatic board placing machine as possible; and be sure to adjust the width or board row. If the boards are placed manually, the operators must place the boards strictly in accordance with the related requirements and place the boards closely against the left and right baffles, which is sure to be useful for prolonging the life of brush roller.

2. Configuration of brush roller: Determine the effective width of brush roller in accordance with the width of board row or transfer width and then perform the special “edge-cutting” processing of boards.

3. Equipment: Please replace the worn back-press wheel in time.

4. Process: Establish a system for inspecting the fat mark at every shift. Maintain the brush rollers at every shift by GSH brand dressing board until the fat marks are OK, then use the brush rollers to brush the boards.

Goal Searchers Co., Ltd, Zhuhai (GSH), one manufacturer specialized in manufacturing brush rollers, sincerely hopes to discuss the problems of grinding brush rollers with the friends in concern with such subject in order to provide better and better scrubbing solutions for PCB manufacturing process in a faster and faster manner! Any fiend's opinions on “dog-gnawed bone” phenomenon are welcome! Any comments or suggestions from you are also welcome!
